We always thought it was rather odd that Oasis's tour didn't have a Manchester date - though we rather assumed there would be an announcement of some kind of Christmas gig, perhaps at the venue formally known as GMEX.

So it was no surprise when Noel let slip that there would indeed be a celebratory 'homecoming' next year (though surely that would be in a park in North London) at the end of last week; and the fun came when he said 'if I gave you 500 guesses you'd still never get where it was'.

You can trust Metro to do some digging for you, but a veil of secrecy has been drawn over the venue and, for once, Noel has kept My Big Mouth shut. So it's rather fun to guess.

City Of Manchester Stadium is apparently out because the owners don't need the money (and in any
case that's hardly a surprise choice - which also rules out the cricket ground, where Oasis have also played).

Heaton Park is clearly a big public space, and seeing as it once hosted a Radio 1 extravanganza, not so difficult to pull off. Some derelict warehouse/brown field site is surely out for health and safety reasons, while any thoughts of anything in the city centre disappeared when Rangers came to town.

We think it's obvious, actually: you'd never guess a band so closely linked with Manchester City could play Manchester United's ground, but this year's Bruce Springsteen gig there was so incredible, somehow
intimate and absolutely massive, that it would be the perfect choice.

Or maybe we're wrong. Where would you like - or indeed want - it to be?
